Barich, Inc. completed this WebResource to provide guidance to airport operators on integrating social media into emergency management (SMEM) for the purposes of information gathering and sharing during incidents, emergencies, and irregular operations. The process for developing an SMEM program is presented as a series of steps; users can work through the steps in sequence or concentrate only on those that address their airport’s particular needs. This guidance is supplemented by various tools and resources, which include a Self-Assessment Tool to determine an airport’s current level of SMEM integration and a discussion of social media tool options and how to select and implement them.
